How to Use the Fingerprint Module on Riotouch Interactive Flat Panels
A shared interactive flat panel has a familiar problem: everyone uses the same board, but not everyone should see the same files.
Riotouch builds a fingerprint module and an NFC reader directly into its interactive flat panels for exactly this reason. Instead of one shared login for a whole department, each user signs in with a finger and gets their own session, files and settings.
This guide covers the three questions users ask most often: how to add a fingerprint, how to set a password, and how to lock the screen — plus the rest of the security controls that come with DaisyOS.
1. What the Fingerprint Module Does
The fingerprint module is built into the front bezel of the panel, alongside the NFC reader and pen slot. It works together with DaisyOS (the Android-side system on Riotouch panels) and with the cloud DMS platform for managed fleets.
In daily use it handles three jobs:
- Sign-in — an enrolled finger logs the user into their own account on the panel.
- User switching — on a shared board, a different fingerprint switches the session instantly, without logging out and back in on screen.
- Access control — the fingerprint unlocks protected content and settings, and can release a locked screen.
All of these controls live in the same place on the panel — Settings → Equipment → Security.
2. Before You Start
- The panel must be running DaisyOS on the Android side (RK3588 and RK3576 series interactive flat panels ship with it).
- Fingerprint enrolment usually requires administrator access — normally the IT administrator or the school’s device owner.
- Fingers should be clean and dry. Enrol the same finger twice at slightly different angles for a more reliable read.
- If your deployment is managed centrally, security settings can also be pushed from the cloud DMS platform — check with your administrator first.
3. How to Add a Fingerprint
Enrolment happens on the panel itself.
- Open Settings from the DaisyOS launcher or the side toolbar.
- Go to Equipment, then select Security. This is the single control panel for fingerprint, NFC, password and all screen locks.
- Select the fingerprint option to open the enrolment screen.
- Choose the user account the fingerprint will be linked to. On a multi-user deployment, each teacher or staff member should enrol their own.
- Place the finger firmly on the sensor in the front bezel and lift it off. Repeat the placement as prompted, varying the angle slightly.
- Name the fingerprint (for example, “Right index”) and save.
- Test it immediately: lock the screen, then touch the sensor with the enrolled finger. The panel should recognise the user and load their session.
To remove a fingerprint later, return to the same screen, select the stored entry and delete it.
Note: the sensor reads one finger at a time and stores a separate template for each enrolled finger, so a single user can enrol more than one.
4. Setting Up a Password
Fingerprints are convenient, but they are not a complete security plan on their own — a finger can be unavailable, unreadable or dirty. There are two password layers worth configuring:
- Panel password (PIN) — entered on the on-screen numeric keypad, used for day-to-day unlocking and administrator-level access.
- Boot lock password — the password requested when the panel starts. Enable this at Settings → Equipment → Security if you want the board protected during startup.
Practical guidance:
- Use a PIN long enough to be non-trivial for a room full of students, but short enough to enter comfortably on a touch keypad.
- Set the boot lock password before the panel is deployed to a classroom, not after. Once a panel is in daily use, changing the boot password means coordinating with every user.
- Keep a record of the administrator password. If it is lost, a factory reset from Settings → System maintenance is normally the only recovery route.
- Roles can be separated: with the five-level account hierarchy (Cloud Admin → OEM → School → Teacher → Student/Parent), the password and enrolment rights stay with the right role.
5. How to Lock the Screen
There is more than one kind of “lock” on a Riotouch panel, and it helps to know which one you need.

The everyday sequence is therefore simple:
- The user touches the fingerprint sensor to sign in to their own session.
- They work with their own files, courseware and settings.
- At the end of the session they lock the screen. The panel returns to a locked state and the next user must authenticate before anything is visible.

6. Why It Matters
- Privacy in a shared room. Files, exam material and student records are not left on screen for the next person. Content is only reachable behind an authenticated session.
- Personal settings follow the person, not the room. A teacher who moves between classrooms finds their own desktop and courseware on whichever panel they sign in to.
- Fast switching beats shared logins. Shared accounts are the usual shortcut when authentication is slow. One-touch login removes the reason to share credentials at all.
- Fewer lost passwords. Biometric login means staff are not repeatedly resetting forgotten passwords — a significant hidden cost across a large school rollout.
- Layered protection without complexity. Fingerprint, NFC, PIN, touch lock, app lock and USB lock are all managed from one panel.
- Fleet-level control. Because the same security layer reports into DMS, a school or enterprise can lock a device, change its settings or push a policy remotely across hundreds of panels.
- Cleaner audits. DaisyOS records system logs including login events, giving administrators a trace of who used which panel and when.

Do all Riotouch interactive flat panels have a fingerprint module?

Re-place the finger cleanly and squarely on the sensor. If recognition is consistently unreliable, re-enrol the fingerprint using several placements at slightly different angles — enrolment quality determines read quality.
Can one account have more than one fingerprint?
Yes. Enrol additional fingers to the same account so a user is not locked out by a single injured finger or an unusual hand position.
Can fingerprints be managed centrally?
Security settings, device locking and policy changes can be applied from the cloud DMS platform for managed fleets. Enrolment itself is normally done on the panel.
